Morning Song
This is a song that came straight from an idea I heard off the edge of a dream, right when I woke up in the morning. I often have a lot of creative energy either really early, or very late in the day. I don’t remember exactly what my dream was about, but the first part of the melody was what I heard from the dream into a waking state. I went straight to my piano to figure it out, and wrote this song in one consecutive session. This video is me straight out of bed, lol! Really focused on getting an idea out while the feeling is there. Songwriting in the most raw, pure form I can share it.
While this year has brought a lot of tumultuous change, it has also opened a tremendous amount of opportunity. In this song, I’m reflecting on the best aspects of having more time at home. I’m being honest with myself about how I don’t really want things to go back to the way they were, because I want to be with those I love. It’s me wanting to hold on to the good parts of all of this change, and not fear this very precious time ending like a really wonderful dream. It’s an acknowledgement and appreciation of the joy in simplicity. It also speaks from a desire to want to embrace every day like it’s vacation. To live fully, with abundant love and gratitude.
Here are the lyrics:
I’m snuggled here with you
Where the sunlight
Grazes your face
Touches your sleepy eyes
I gaze into the quiet
Watch the steam rise
From the coffee, and I’m happy
Here in simplicity
Give me a sky
With no obstruction to the stars
A day without agenda
Where time is free and ours
The journey is open
And ours to create
The path we imagine
Is ours to find and take…
Every lovely little morning
Can I stay here with you
Let the space unfold
Around us, make breakfast
And cherish this day
I want to step into
These open arms
Of time; Possibility
In endless quantities
And I would give you
All of the stories of my heart
The brightest joy
Emerging from the dark
Breathe with me
In the light above us streaming
Every heartbeat in hand
Keep me here, keep me dreaming
With lovely little mornings
Can this place be forever
In a space free within
I want to feel it all
This is where our lives begin…
In lovely little mornings
