Draw what you see.
Art is a window to the soul.
Everything begins with drawing. Even the most expressive, abstract works of art have a sense of line and motion that connect eye to mind to hand. Sometimes, I wind up feeling more satisfied with a drawing than the finished piece. There’s a kind of raw, pure quality to a sketch that gives the viewer an insight into how something comes to be. I’ll rotate some of my favorite sketches and drawings with you all here, as my work evolves over time.
Embrace the Process.
Some of my absolute favorite pieces of art are the unfinished sketches and drawings that reveal the process. Sketches show us how the artist thought through their work, and expressed it. The act of creating is what transforms us, and connects us to a deeper level of self. Don’t worry about what it looks like! Just try. The end result is a snapshot of the journey it took to get there. And the journey is so much more interesting.
