“Travel Begins in the Imagination.”
This painting is inspired by the act of imagining oneself into the expanse of new possibilities, and uncharted waters. The idea for this piece was inspired by the imagery of a dream, and brought to life through abstract expression. The ship is a found piece from Hawaii, fashioned from a coppery metal and whimsically stylized. I permanently affixed it to the frame, so it continues the image outward into the space of the viewer. The painting is layered vibrant color applied with a textural impasto technique. I used this tactile approach because I wanted to give a tangible feel to the ethereal quality of the subject matter. Clear gloss varnish seals and saturates the richness of the color.
To those who dream of what lies beyond the horizon.
